All too often you hear about someone being victimized by thieves posing as utility company workers. You can prevent utility imposters from targeting you by taking precautions to protect yourself.
Individuals claiming to represent a utility company approach the resident and use a variety of excuses to enter the home. For example, they claim to be checking a service outage. Once in the home they divert the home owner’s attention.
It is rare for utility workers to show up at a customer’s home without an appointment. If they do, be sure to ask for and check their identification. If you are still unsure and have suspicions about the individuals identification call 9-1-1 immediately.
